Álvaro Morata will ask Real Madrid for a pay rise
Real Madrid have offered to match the 4 million euros which Alvaro Morata earned at Juventus. The player also wants to know exactly what role he will be playing in the teamBetis vs Real Madrid live stream online
Álvaro Morata's future is still up in the air. His agent Juanma López is due to meet with Real Madrid official this week to clarify the player's situation. Morata wants to know exactly what his role will be within the side; and he is not prepared to assume a secondary role after the progress he has made at Juventus, and his performances with Spain at Euro 2016 in which he started every game and ended on three goals. If Madrid cannot guarantee that he will get regular playing time, Morata would rather leave. “I've got nothing to prove. I'm not a Castilla player anymore”, he said recently. Zidane is counting on the striker for the new season - but would stand in his way if he requested to leave.
Another matter which Morata's agent will be tyring to establish is his client's salary. Morata hopes to earn more than he did while he was at Juve (over 4 million euros, after tax, per annum). It's understandable that Morata would want a pay rise considering the offers he has received from the Premier (Arsenal are willing to pay 9 million). But Madrid, for the moment at least, have other ideas. They don't want to break the salary scale and are only willing to match what the player earned in Turin. The club could still sell Morata on this summer to finance one of the other operations they have in progress (Pogba, Kanté and Alaba…).
Morata due to join the team during the stage in Canada
Madrid issued a statement to confirm that they had repurchased Morata adding that the player would start the pre-season with the first team squad. But Madrid have not yet notified Morata of the exact date when he is expected to turn up for his first day at work. It's likely that Morata, who is now on holiday, will be due to join Zidane's team during the summer stage in Canada on either 20th or 23rd of July, together with the two other Spain internationals: Sergio Ramos and Lucas Vázquez as well as James, Kovacic and Modric.
Zidane's idea is to not let Morata leave for another club without having spoken to the player, face to face, first. That conversation will take place, at the earliest, in Canada. And it seems that, as far as Madrid are concerned, Morata's situation will not change in any way until he has specified his role and wages with the coach.
