Mourinho reveals how he convinced Pogba to sign for Utd
Manchester United coach José Mourinho revealed how he deluged Pogba with phone calls and messages to persude him to move to the Premier League.
José Mourinho has given an extensive interview to Goal, and admitted that signing Paul Pogba was no easy task. The Manchester United coach said he had a hard job convincing the French international to pick Manchester United over another "big club". (Real Madrid were known to be keen to sign the player, but were thought to have balked at the 110 million pound price tag). Mou's winning tactic: constantly phoning Pogba and sending him many, many messages.
Pogba's phone was ringing all summer
According to José, Pogba's phone must have been pinging away like crazy over the summer as messages flooded in, with the coach from the other big club bidding to sign Pogba sending the player messages in the morning and José scribbling sweet nothings on SMS in the afternoon to try and tempt the attacking midfielder.
No Champions League football for Mourinho
In the end Mourinho of course got his man (for an eye watering fee), but what he isn't getting this season is Champions League football, with Manchester United failing to qualify for Europe's elite competition.
But for José, this year it isn't really the Champions League, because "the Champions League without Manchester United is not the Champions League", and in fact "Manchester United without the Champions League is not Manchester United" so overall, he's desperate to get back into the competition, so everything can go back to normal.
Mourinho bidding to get Utd back to the top
In the rest of the interview Mourinho talks about how he's going to get Manchester United back to the very top and how he feels at home at United already.
