"Madrid don't have a set style; they use all of their variations"
Espanyol coach Quique Sánchez Flores feels that Sunday's meeting with Real Madrid is the ideal moment for his team to “restore their winning mentality”.
Espanyol vs Real Madrid live English
Quique Sánchez Flores aired a few thoughts on how his Espanyol side have been faring since the new season started and looked ahead to Sunday's clash with Real Madrid - a game which he feels could be just the inspiration his side needs to "change our reserved, negative outlook and become winners again".
The 51-year-old knows Real Madrid well from his playing days and says the current team has multiple personalties which makes them a difficult side to calculate. "Real Madrid don't choose how they play; they use all of their variations. They move forward well - it's almost as if they are a side coached by five different managers. It doesn't matter who plays, because they all advance up the pitch at the same velocity. In recent seasons they have been brutal on the counter attack and they play wonderful football with the ball at their feet too. They have a lot of virtues and draw on them all", Quique told Cadena COPE.
In sharp contrast to Madrid who have won three from three and sit top of the table, his side have yet to register a win having drawn their last two outings against Málaga and Real Sociedad. But that will havwe no bearing on his gameplan for Sunday. “You can't plan games based on which players will be on the opposing side. It's not going to make much different is they play three in attack, or two. We can't tailor our game to suit our rivals; we have to take it where we want it to go so we have a chance of winning it. We need to be rebellious and adapt to whatever game they play. Anything can happen in football so you need to be prepared”.
