Messi's brother 'punished' with football training for gun offence
Matías Horacio Messi, the older brother of the Barcelona star Lionel, was arrested in October on a firearms charge, but an Argentinian court has decided to suspend his trial
An Argentinian court has suspended the trial of Matias Messi – brother of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi – for illegal possession of firearm, ordering him instead to give training sessions at a local football club.
Messi was arrested in October 2015 owing to the .22-caliber pistol he was carrying without authorisation, the Telam news agency reported.
Four hours of football training a week
The court resolution states that the 34-year old will now have to provide four hours a week of technical and physical football sessions at the Leones de Rosario Sports and Social Club for a period of one year.
In addition, the older brother of the Barcelona star will have to "refrain from abusing drugs and/or alcohol", pay a fine of 8,000 pesos (470 euros) and not move from his home in Rosario.
