Van Gaal wanted Manchester Utd to use virtual reality goggles
The Dutch manager was reportedly considering a rather innovative way of boosting the performances of his ‘bored’ players.
Louis Van Gaal has always been considered somewhat eccentric and recent revelations suggest he was no different during his time at Manchester United.
Van Gaal wanted to incorporate virtual reality goggles
Known for his outside-the-box thinking, Van Gaal is reported to have been considering using virtual reality goggles during his training sessions to prevent players from becoming too bored.
Max Reckers, his Peformance Analyst at Old Trafford, revealed this week at the Soccerex convention in Manchester that Van Gaal was planning on using the goggles to analyse players’ movements from all angles.
Virtual reality growing around Europe
“Louis is very open to new technology,” he told his audience. “He’s a very forward-thinking manager.” The technology is currently growing in the Netherlands; PSV have already incorporated it into their training methods while AZ Alkmaar have reportedly signed a sponsorship agreement with the developers, Beyond Sports.
Van Gaal’s plans never materialized after he was fired to make way for Jose Mourinho, who it seems is unlikely to embrace the technology. Can you imagine Wayne Rooney running around with virtual reality goggles on? No, we can’t either…
