New kidney rejected

Former Bolton striker Ivan Klasnic is in a critical condition having suffered kidney failure after his body rejected the kidney transplant donated by his father in 2006. His renal problems forced him to temporarily take a break from the game while he was at Werder Bremen.

Klasnic, the Daily Mail reports, needs a third kidney transplant, as the organ donated by his mother was also rejected. While he waits for a doner to come forward, the ex-Croatia international is attending a medical centre in Hamburg three days a week for dialysis.

The average waiting time for a new kidney in Germany is seven years, which means that Klasnic will probably have to relay on a kidney from a deceased donor and hope he is position on the waiting list improves.
