Alfredo Di Stéfano to have a street named after him in Madrid
Real Madrid’s greatest-ever player died in 2014 and will now be honoured with a street close to the club’s training facility.
Real Madrid legend Alfredo di Stéfano, who died in July 2014 at the age of 88, is to have a street in Madrid close to the club’s training facility named in his honour.

Di Stefáno, who played for Real Madrid between 1953 and 1964 and was the face of the club’s five successive and iconic European Cup triumphs during the 1950s, was made honorary president in 2000, a title he held until his death.
Madrid City Council announced through spokesperson Rita Maestre on Thursday morning that his name will be given to a street in the Valdefuentes neighbourhood in the north of Madrid and that the decision was approved unanimously.

Overshadowed by Pele and Maradona, Di Stefáno deserves a place in the debate over the greatest footballer of all time. He scored over 200 goals for Real Madrid and was adored by his contemporaries including Eusébio and Just Fontaine, who suggested that he was “the most complete footballer in the history of the game.”
