Florentino Pérez: Real Madrid don't need a sporting director
In a meeting with club members ahead of Sunday's AGM, Real president Pérez has reportedly scotched talk of reviving the position.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has told club members that he has no intention of bringing in a sporting director to run the Bernabéu side's transfer operations.
Real have not employed anyone in such a post since Jorge Valdano - whose official title was 'general manager' - was sacked in 2011 after falling out with then coach José Mourinho.
Zidane wants a sporting director
With Pérez now Real's de facto sporting director, first-team boss Zinedine Zidane is thought to be out to revive the position, and apparently has Portuguese Luis Campos in mind.
Florentino adamant
"Real Madrid sign the best players in the world and Spain, and then there's also the academy," the 69-year-old continued.
"Madrid need the best players and we don't need a sporting director for that."
