FA to offer Gareth Southgate four-year deal after Spain friendly
According to the English press, the Football Association have decided that they are happy with the interim mangager and have drawn up a £1.5 million-a-year contract until 2020.
Gareth Southgate is to be offered a four-year contact after the friendly verses Spain on Tuesday, according to various English media reports.
£1.5 million-a-year contract until 2020
With Southgate’s four-game reign as interim manager ending with the game at Wembley, the Football Association have decided that they are happy with the former England under-21 coach and have drawn up a £1.5 million-a-year contract until 2020.
The Telegraph had revealed last week that potential rivals for the post had been informed that Southgate would be offered the permanent job barring a disaster against Scotland. England won that match 3-0, meaning the result of the Spain game is now irrelevant to his future.
Release clause after 2018 World Cup
Southgate’s permanent contract will have a release clause after the 2018 World Cup, but the intention is for the 46-year-old to take the senior team to the 2020 European Championship.
