Vicente del Bosque has criticised the people who poor scorn on the good work done by Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane by labelling him as “lucky”, something which he says also happened to him during his time at the club.
"Players follow Zizou like a leader"
“We already know that there are those who don’t appreciate the work of people based on the belief that they’re very lucky,” the former Madrid and Spain boss told El Confidencial.
“That’s quite some value Zidane will have after this whole run of [unbeaten] games and the three international titles he’s won. Zizou has a group of players behind him that follow him like a leader.”
Del Bosque remembers similar "contempt"
Del Bosque argues that he was similarly underappreciated during his four seasons in the Spanish capital – a period when he ushered the club through its most successful spell in modern history, winning two UEFA Champions League titles in 2000 and 2002, two domestic La Liga titles in 2001 and 2003, as well as a Spanish Supercup, a UEFA Super Cup, and an Intercontinental Cup.
“As much as they devalue him, like they did with me with contempt of this kind, he’s a man that has shown his influence over the squad.”
