Lyon considering audacious bid for Carlos Vela

Experienced striker
Olympique Lyonnais are plotting an audacious attempt to sign Real Sociedad centre-forward Carlos Vela in the winter transfer window. The French side need aan experienced striker as amatter of urgency and have cited the Mexico international as the man who would fit in to perfection in Bruno Genesio's set-up. Lyon, who lie fourth in the Ligue 1 table, need extra cover for the unsettled Alexandre Lacazette who is currently out injured and winger Rachid Ghezzal who will be with Algeria at this month's Africa Cup of Nations.
Key player at La Real
Vela is under contract at until June 2018. He had been linked with a move away from San Sebastián, possibly to MLS, last season but was convinced to stay after a heart to heart with Eusebio. A long-term injury, erractic form and a ticking off for missing training didn't help him to reach his best football last term but he seems radiant in comparison this season, and becoming a father for the first time late last year has given him a different outlook. The way things have been going, it seems very unlikely that La Real will let Vela leave at a crucial point of the season - and moreover, the best start they have had to any season since they ended as runners-up to Real Madrid in 2003. The Txuri-urdinak hope this season they can qualify for Europe again and they will need Vela at his best if they are to achieve it.
