Atletico Madrid have started the next major engineering phase in the construction of their new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano, with the traction ring for the structure’s roof now being fitted into place.
Innovative retractable roof
In the video above, Antonio Cruz of Cruz & Ortiz Architects and Mike Schlaich, director of Schlaich Bergermann Partner – the international consultant in charge of the ground’s design and company behind other famous international football stadium’s such as the New Maracana and Soccer City, Johannesburg, give fascinating insight into the mechanics of the project.
When complete, the Wanda Metropolitano will have a unique and innovative roof designed to enhance the viewer's experience and maximize atmopshere. "It will be a spectacle," explains Mike Schlaich in the video feature.
