BARCELONA
Piqué talks loud and clear on Facebook: refs, Madrid, Messi...
The Barcelona central defender discussed the current state of affairs at the club with his followers.
Football talk
Gerard Piqué is back in the spotlight. During last summer's Euro 2016, he answered questions from his followers on Periscope, and today he did something similar on Facebook. The Barça centre-back touched on many subjects, but decided that enough has already been said about the refereeing decisions against Athletic Club in the Copa and Villarreal in the league.
"Let's leave the matter of referees, it's getting a too out of control", said Piqué, who went on to add: "I am all in favour of football moving with the times and being modernized and I am convinced that in the end, the technological advances will be introduced into the game".
Treble chance
Barça going for the lot: "We are going to fight to win all of the competitions we are in. Madrid have a two-point advantage, and while they have a game in hand, we are convinced that we can go on to win the league this year”.
Reported interest in Philippe Coutinho: "It's [Technical Secretary] Robert's job to handle those kinds of things but great players are always received here with arms wide open”.
Amazing Messi
What's it like playing alongside Messi? "Playing with Leo is amazing. And obviously, playing with the rest of my team mates is as well".
Have you ever considering leaving Barcelona: "To be honest, no I haven't. I'm happy here, this is my lifelong club and I hope to end my playing career here".
Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology: "It'll happen sooner or later in football. It's just a question of time - it will come in useful for decisive moves. Technology is a vital and basica tool for all sports. We've already it in the NBA and American Football".
Messi or Cristiano? "The question I always get asked - you already know the answer".
High-line defending: "It has its difficulties but after using that system for so many years, you get used to it. At the end of the day, you just try to do the best you can for the team".
Playing for Barça: "It's a unique sensation to play alongside the great players we have in the squad right now. We are one of the best teams and we can battle for all of the competitions we are in, and we are all really determined to try and do that ".
Loan stint
Spell at Zaragoza: "That was a really enjoyable year for me. I was 19 and it was my first experience of playing in the top flight. It was a great year for Zaragoza because we quialified for the UEFA Cup. I hope that things imporive for them and that they can get promoted back to the Primera so I can go back to La Romareda".
La Masía: "La Masía has always been a basic element for the club, the place where they invest in producing the best young talent".
