Sampaoli's rotation headache

Sevilla's slip-up at home to Leganés on Saturday laid bare certain issues facing the sqaud depth of Sampaoli's side as they look to stay in touch in the title race and progress in the Champions League.

Attacking fluidity

The Andalusian club sent out a team against Leganés that clearly had one eye on their upcoming game against Leicester and it cost them dearly. Without either the suspended Vitolo or Nasri Sevilla could not gel and find a way through the visitor's defence with the sqaud players that came in. It was the same story with Nzonzi, who came on in the second half and failed to link up effectively with his team-mates. Carriço, Mariano and Kranevitter completed the most passes against Leganés in a performance that was bereft of attacking ideas and intent. 

Spluttering Sevilla

Sampaoli clearly selected a staring eleven with a view to Tuesday's trip to England but the decision could cost his side in both competitions. The rotations, which aimed to rest key players showing signs of fatigue, proved that Sevilla's second-string players could not provide the necessary punch, both mentally and physically. This lack of strength in depth over the past two league games has sent alarm bells ringing over Sevilla's slump at a key moment in the season and Argentinian coach will look to the Leicester game knowing his side must up their game and find the kind of form that saw them exchanging blows with the big guns only a few weeks ago.
