Overexcited Man of the Match thanks wife - and girlfriend. Doh!

Anas scoops Man of the Match

His two goals for Free State Stars in a league draw with Ajax Cape Town this weekend earned him the Man of the Match award from the league sponsors.

He was presented with a statuette and a cash prize and had to give an obligatory post-match pitchside interview. What followed was a hilarious gaffe as Anas made a Freudian slip which immediately went viral.

“I appreciate my fans,” said Anas, “…and my wife and my girlfriend, erm, I mean my wife, yes”.

As soon as he realized that that he had put his foot in it, he backtracked: “I'm so sorry, my wife. Giselle, I love you so much from my heart”.

Twitter responds

But the damage was already done and his faux pas was blazing away on social media: “Two goals, two girls. Mohammed Anas” quipped Given Zondi Twitter, while Papago Rapz chortled, “Mohammed Anas scored two goals plus an own goal”.
