Madrid, Liverpool and Real Sociedad affection

It was two and a half years ago when the man from the Basque country decided to make a move to Munich following a period at Madrid that had seen him become a fan favourite. In the same way as he is still remembered fondly by fans of Real Sociedad and Liverpool, there will be many a home supporter on Tuesday with positive feelings towards the opposing Alonso.

Longing to return to the Bernabéu turf

And taking to Twitter on Monday, Xabi posted a black and white image of himself looking out over the stadium from the offices of Best of You - an agency that respresents him - in Torre Europa, Madrid. His accompanying message was simple and finished with the Bayern club motto: Mia San Mia...We are who we are.

AS English will be building up to the big game throughout the day ahead of our live commentary from 20:45 CEST. Madrid start with a 2-1 lead from the pulsating first leg.
