Espanyol make Diego López's future a priority
CEO Ramon Robert will meet with AC Milan officials within the next few days to negotiate a deal to keep the goalkeeper. The club is also keen to keep Diego Reyes.Real Madrid-Espanyol
Espanyol CEO Ramon Robert spoke about the situation at the club and in particular, that of several players and the Catalans start planning for the new season and explained that president Chen Yansheng has arrived in Barcelona with the idea of taking a look at the team over the final games of the season, to gauge what reinforcements need to be made. “We're analyzing the budget for the new season. Much of what we will be able to spend will be determined by where we finish in the table” Robert said at Espanyol's stand to celebrate Sant Jordi, the region's patron saint today.
Espanyol are keen for Diego López to continue
The number one priority for Espanyol is hammering out the future of first choice keeper Diego López, whose year-long loan from AC Milan is due to end in June. “Negotiations with Milan are back underway. Diego has said that he wants to stay and we want him to stay then there is a third party which is the club who actually owns him. We have already spoken to them, and we will be talking to them again this week and the following week”. A little more complicated will the operation to see full-back Diego Reyes stay on. The Mexican is on loan from Porto but Espanyol have a first option to buy him for seven million euros. “We want Diego to stay with us and we will make an effort to try to make sure that happens but we can't afford to go crazy, there are some conditions that we can't assume", Robert explained. "The technical department and the coaching team are analyzing profiles, and looking at names of players who we might be able to bring in to strengthen the team - we don't want to leave any rebuilding too late, ideally, we want to have the squad more or less complete on the first day of the pre-season. There has been some interest for some of our players but Espanyol doesn't need to sell out of necessity, but we will if it opens up opportunities”.
