Diego Simeone gave his thoughts on Atlético's performance in last night's Champions League semi-final - the final European game to be played at the Vicente Calderón.

Keylor Navas was Real Madrid's best player, says Simeone

Analysis of the game: "The team showed  why they have been competing to this level for so many years. I have to feel very proud of the players - they kept hope, they showed that we don't talk just for talking's sake but because we really do believe. Their keeper was their best player and that speaks volumes about the match".

Going 2-0 up: "We didn't feel that we were that close to winning the tie because we still needed another two goals, although the game tipped in our favour early one. Madrid's goal really did us a lot of damage. It was a tremendous game, a very noble game. It's just a shame that we can't clone players like Godín and Gabi, because they breathe life into the team".

What do Atlético lack? "Making a small step, which is also a very big one. Can we do it? I hope we can and will.

You seem very happy, why's that?
I am happy, and proud. Once again we showed that we can compete with the top teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona. We went into this return leg with a 3-0 deficit to overturn and when I said that we could do it, some people thought it was just empty words. Those first 30 - 35 minutes will go down in club history - we gave everything. After that Madrid took advantage of a lapse in concentration at the back. But this magical night will remain in the memory forever

Will the new stadium have the same magic as the Calderón?
I believe that emotion can be transmitted. The same people who come here will be in the Wanda Metropoltiano. You cannot take away the enthusiasm of the people. The Wanda is going to be our new home.
