"Nobody has done what Barcelona achieved in the last 15 or 20 years," the Manchester City manager said. "The Champions League is short."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had his say on what his former club Barcelona have to do to return to the summit of LaLiga and Europe during a charity golf event organised by the Cruyff Foundation on Monday.

"Competitiveness means winning week after week in the league"

“Very little,” the ex-Barça boss opined when the question was put to him. “When a team wins the Copa del Rey and is fighting for the Liga title until the end… Barcelona are the most competitive team of the last 15 or 20 years. Competitiveness means winning week after week in the league. Nobody has done that. In Europe a bad day gets you knocked out but there is not a team in the world that are more competitive than Barça. The Champions League is a short competition. You have six or eight games and you can advance if everything goes your way but in the league you have to roll up your sleeves every day. There is no better side that Barça and they’ll do it all again.”

Pep on Valverde: "He’ll do a very good job"

Guardiola also spoke about new Barça coach Ernesto Valverde: “I have the good fortune to call him a good friend and he’ll do a very good job. He’s a friendly person and a very good coach. I won’t be giving him any advice. Just to be himself, I think he has shown in Greece and other difficult places where there is a lot of pressure like Valencia that he can handle it, at Athletic as well. He’s very knowledgeable and he’s an extraordinary person.”
