As part of Madrid's ongoing plan to review the contracts of several first team squad players (Marcelo, Isco, Carvajal, Benzema and Marcos Llorente have all signed new deals), next in line is Marco Asensio, whose current contract is due to expire in 2020. The agreement between player and club is in place (as AS reported on 16 July), but Asensio's new contract has yet to be made official and the idea is to announce it before the mini-break in LaLiga, after the Champions League MatchDay 2 meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

Asensio to pen three-year contract extension with Real Madrid

Asensio will extend his contract with Real Madrid until 30 June 2023 and see his buy-out clause raised to 500 million euros, although that retention fee could be revised at a future date but for the moment, it has been set high as a deterrent to Europe's big-spending clubs.

The talented 21-year-old has responded to the faith the club has shown him where it counts - out on the field of play. He is the team's top scorer this season with four goals and his performances  have forced Zidane to reconsider the 'BBC' as the team's undisputed line of attack.

Madrid's plan to renew the contracts of their key players

Asensio's new contract continues a policy of tying down players which Madrid began last summer, with new deals offered to Lucas Vázquez (2021), Bale (2022), Kroos (2022), Modric (2020) and Cristiano (2021).
