Chelsea fail to sell out away allocation for Atlético clash
Atlético had sent the Londoners 3,437 tickets for Champions League match at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday, the first European match at the new ground.
The Wanda Metropolitano will host its inaugural European fixture on Wednesday evening, when Atlético play Chelsea in the Champions League.
Chelsea return tickets to Atlético
Yet Chelsea have not taken up their full allocation of tickets for the match. Atlético sent the west-London club 3,437 away tickets, which were available to fans for €60 each.
Chelsea have returned a little over 1,000 of those tickets, meaning around 2,300 English fans will follow their team to Spain.
Wanda Metropolitano to make Champions League bow
Atlético Madrid and the local authorities are keen for the match to go smoothly, given that the stadium was recently awarded the right to host the final of the 2019 Champions League.
Diego Costa looks set to join Atlético in January, with both Chelsea and Atlético announcing that the clubs have agreed a deal for the striker. He will watch the match from the presidential balcony.
