Coruxo open their stadium to give refuge as forest fires claim four lives in Galicia
The Second Division B club opened the doors of the Campo do Vao to take in residents affected by the wildfires which been ravaging the north west coast since the weekend.

Second Division B club Coruxo FC have taken measures to ensure the safety of local residents affected by the 146 forest fires which have swept the Galicia region since the start of the weekend - 105 of which remain active and 15 are still out of control. Four people have lost their lives as a result of the fires. The Vigo-based outfit have opened the doors of their stadium, Campo do Vao, to take in those fleeing the wildfires. "O Vao football stadium will remain open all night to those who need refuge. Coruxo is on fire. We will remain always united", the club wrote in a message on their official Twitter account.

Coruxo's stadium was full last night as fires approached Vigo with many streets left without electricity and water in a scene described as "like the end of the world". The club's Fragoselo training ground was razed to the ground by the wildfires.

Balaídos, covered in ash
Celta de Vigo have also bee affected by the fires. Flames did not reach the club's sporting facilities but Balaídos has been left covered in ash as the whole of Vigo is under a black cloud of ash as fires continue to rage. Galician president Alberto Nuñez Feijóo said: "We are in a critical situation" as fires devoured three provinces: Ourense, Lugo and Pontevedra. Coruxo have issued an emergency number: Campo do Vao: 986 491 823 and have said their stadium will remain open until the situation is under control.
