Arteta turns up to City training covering derby face injury
The Manchester City coach was reportedly struck with a bottle during a fracas after Pep Guardiola's side won the derby at Old Trafford.
Manchester City’s victory in the derby on Sunday, or rather, according to José Mourinho, the manner of the visitors’ celebrations after their 2-1 win, led to an altercation during which City coach Mikel Arteta was reportedly hit in the face by a bottle.
UK broadsheet The Guardian said Arteta was left bloodied after a bust-up involving up to 20 players and members of staff from the two clubs after Sunday's game.
Arteta arrived at City’s training complex on Monday morning obscuring his face from waiting photographers.
Mourinho unhappy with City celebrations
The fracas occurred when Mourinho, on his way to his post-match press conference, passed the away changing rooms and heard City players celebrating their win in what the Portuguese perceived as an over-the-top manner. The United manager reportedly informed the City players of his opinion and Ederson, his compatriot, replied in turn.
From there the situation deteriorated and Mourinho was doused in milk and water as bottles flew, with Arteta and an unnamed City assistant coach being hit by the plastic projectiles.
The police were forced to intervene to break up the brawl, which Mourinho and Pep Guardiola made no reference to in their eventual press conferences.
