Atlético express disgust after stabbing at Wanda Metropolitano

Atlético Madrid were quick to distance themselves from the fans involved in the incident and said the assaulted is not a member and neither is the aggressor.

Atlético Madrid have assessed the events that took place around the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night before the Copa del Rey game against Sevilla when a 22-year-old man was stabbed three times and ended up in hospital. The club remain unmoved on those who "try to use football and sport, their environment, as an excuse to commit crime without having anything to do with the event itself or the fans that come together for a game. The rule is that of zero tolerance."

The club remain concerned over the state of the person who was injured but also send a reminder that they do not have power over what happens outside the doors of the stadium. The assaulted is not a member of the club and that the aggressor has not been since 2001 and Atlético say that several measures have been incorporated, and some only used by Atlético, in an effort to stamp out violence by the fans.

They installed fingerprint scanners in an effort to control access for every person that enters into the area where the ultras sit. An image database of all members was also collected to control entry to that area of the stadium. Those who did not have their picture taken are not given cards to enter the stadium.

in addition, Atlético Madrid point out that since moving to the Wanda Metropolitano, there is a "desire to convert every game into a part for all of the family" with many events and organised activities taking place before the games. They also say that these very events were put in place to "encourage a good atmosphere and to avoid, precisely, the events that occurred (on Wednesday night)."
