“We don't want players.... black players…” This chant with obvious racist connotations was heard in the South stand at Sporting Gijon's El Molinon stadium during the Liga 1|2|3 match against Nastic on Sunday.

The words of the chant were amended from the traditional chant of: “No queremos jugadores, jugadores del montón, los queremos de Mareo, orgullosos de Gijón”. "We don't want a ton of players, we want them from Mareo (the youth academy) and that they are proud of Gijon. The “jugadores del montón” was changed to “jugadores de color” (black players). Sporting's hardcore Ultra Boys fans who sit in this section of the stadium have distanced themselves from the chant via a communique.

“At no point in time was this chant sounded from our megaphone, we will not tolerate that our collective be stigmatised by a small minority whose actions have nothing to do with our group" claimed their press release.

This is not the first time the active support section of El Molinon have been under the spotlight for racist chanting as an investigation was opened last season with the referee having to stop the opening LaLiga game of the 2016/17 season between Sporting and Athletic Bilbao when monkey chantes were aimed at Iñaki Williams.
