Carlos Tévez to attempt to lure Buffon to Boca Juniors
The rumour mill is abuzz with the prospect of the Juventus keeper playing at La Bombonera if he accepts his former teammate's proposition.
Gianluigi Buffon has received an invitation from his former Juventus teammate Carlos Tévez to move to the Argentinean Superliga if the veteran stopper elects to leave Serie A at the end of the current season.
The possibility has caused a buzz in Buenos Aires, with Buffon thought to be interested in the idea of ending his career on a stage as singular as La Bombonera. The veteran keeper has yet to make a decision on his future but is expected to leave Juve after 17 season with the Old Lady but he has not yet ruled out another year in the Italian top-flight.
Buffon to tread the pass less-travelled?
However, the opportunity to finally add the Champions League to his medal collection has passed Buffon by again this season after Juve’s controversial defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals and Tévez has reportedly launched a bid to persuade his erstwhile colleague to forgo the more obvious route to China or MLS if he decides to bid Europe farewell in June and join him in Buenos Aires.
Boca’s proposal is that Buffon join the club for six months initially, during which time the Copa Libertadores will be in play and a keeper of Buffon’s stature could be a useful addition. The Argentinean club’s current first choice, 22-year-old Agustín Rossi, has the confidence of coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto, but with his whole career ahead of him the prospect of making way for Buffon on a short-term basis and learning from a World Cup-winning could appeal to all parties concerned.
