"Russia will win and reach the quarters. Spain are in crisis"
"Denis is full of confidence, and will play even better against Spain and score a goal," the former Sporting Gijón player said about his son ahead of Spain's clash with Russia on Sunday.
Former Russia and Sporting Gijón forward Dmitri Cheryshev spoke about Russia's chances in the last 16 against Spain on Sunday (16:00 CEST).
"I think we'll win"
"I think we'll win and go through to the quarter-finals. Spain are currently in crisis and because we're playing the World Cup at home we have to win," he said.
"Changing the head coach two days before the start of the World Cup, right at the last minute, is too much. I think the Spaniards are suffering a bit after that", he added.
In terms of his son Denis, Cheryshev said: "Denis is full of confidence. He's riding the crest of a wave and is also really happy. Playing against Spain is something special for him. He'll play even better against Spain and will score".
