Alfredo Relaño@AS_RelanoBLOGNuestras futbolistas merecen volar en primeraUpdate: Aug 1st, 2018 02:22 EDT
Spain’s women's under-19s played their fifth consecutive European final yesterday, beating Germany and confirming that women’s football in our country already deserves to fly in first class.

Barcelona amended their error, which surely they will not make again. Spain's female footballers, pickaxes in hands, are breaking down walls, and it is time for us to move away the obstacles (the main one being the indifference towards their sport) that we have put in their path.

It is worth mentioning that the Women’s U-17s team are four-time European champions and have finished runners up on several occasions. So this is not a one or two-time thing, our young female teams are consistently up there with the best. I like this for two reasons: I like football and I like that football can serve as a platform in the fight for equality.

As I always, when I write about this topic, I deplore the fact that Real Madrid is far behind on this issue. I don’t know why Florentino Perez has such a narrow-minded view. Barcelona invests 3.5 million euros in its women’s team, Atléti around half of that. Instead of Real Madrid blowing money on crappy investments like Lucas Silva or Coentrao, they could invest that money in their female teams, both in football and basketball. That kind of money is not much to the club, but it would go a long way in supporting the female teams for a decade.
Tagged in:Germany national football teamFlorentino PérezLucas SilvaFábio CoentrãoGerman teamNational teamsFC BarcelonaReal MadridAtlético MadridFootballTeamsSportsEurope
