Del Piero: "I understand Cristiano, but Modric deserved the award"
The former Juventus player spoke about Ronaldo not showing up for the UEFA gala and not winning the award as Luka Modric won player of the year.
Former Juventus player, Alessandro Del Piero, commented on the UEFA Player of the Year award and the fiasco caused by Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes. The agent called it a disgrace that Luka Modric won ahead of Ronaldo.
Del Piero, speaking to Sky Italia, said "There's a problem because something happened, something didn't work. If Cristiano said, 'I can't go to Montecarlo', there would have been no problem. I would have been angry in his situation, but to not show up at the gala is another thing."
"Modric has been extraordinary for Madrid and in the World Cup and the award was deserved, but Cristiano has had a marvellous season too. Ballon d'Or? Many times, the person who wins the UEFA award, wins it.."
Ronaldo has not scored in three games for Juventus and his manager, Allegri says "nobody scores 40 goals in Italy" and Del Piero says that "we defend looking for numerical superiority it's complicated for a forward, Cristiano has to get to know a new league. Juventus can be very happy. They've won all of their games without goals from Ronaldo or from Dybala."
