Caparrós: "You can't stage a Seville derby in the USA"
"This game is different to the rest. Football is a business but it's also an emotional sport," the Sevilla director of football said of Betis rivalry.
Joaquín Caparrós, Sevilla’s director of football who previously served as manager of the club between 2000 and 2005, has had his say on LaLiga’s plans to host official fixtures in the USA and stated that he is firmly against the prospect of staging a Seville derby against arch-rivals Betis over the pond.
“The derby is completely different to other games and it should be played here. You can’t up sticks and put one on in the USA,” Caparrós said in the wake of defeat to Betis in the most recent league meeting between the sides.
Caparrós: "We can't risk losing the emotional aspect"
“When looking at this situation you have to take into account two things: the Spanish football brand, which wants to grow internationally and the emotional aspect, which we can’t risk losing. If you tell a season-ticket holder that he has to go to another country there’s a chance they won’t bother renewing again. This whole thing has to handled very carefully. Football is a business but it’s also an emotional sport.”
