Barcelona have decided to update their club badge to give it a more modern feel. After conducting a series of studies, Barça's board of directors approved the redesign of the club crest during this evening's meeting. In a club press release, the club explained that it felt the club badge must move with the times - in line with everything it represents: the city, Catalunya and the club colours - blue and claret. Another concern was the ability for the new Barcelona club badge to be easily reproduced in the digital age. The new badge features greater emphasis on the blue and claret stripes, which are slightly wider, while the FCB acronym has been removed and the football motif in the centre of the shield is slightly larger than before.

Barcelona revamp club badge to move with the times

Barcelona last updated their club badge back in 2002 and this will be the 11th time it has been subjected to a redesign. “It's a crest with which we can fully identify - everyone who sees it will instantly recognize it as the Barcelona crest”, club spokeman Josep Vives said. Barça plan to replace the old club crest with the new in all areas where their brand appears - once it has been formally approved by the Assembly although it won't appear on the team's shirts until next season.
