Injuries

Dani Carvajal was yet another in a series of Real Madrid players to suffer an injury with the right back being forced to retire from the action last night with a muscular complaint in his left leg. The defender will undergo a scan later this evening to determine the seriousness of the injury but initial suggestions point to the player not being ready for Saturdays league game in Vitoria.

CSKA top Group G

With a four point haul from the opening two games in Group G, it's Russian side CSKA Moscow who currently sit aloft the group. With their 5-0 demolition of Czech side Viktoria Plzen at the Stadio Olimpico, AS Roma are in second place (by virtue of goals scored) ahead of Madrid. Next up for Loptegui's side in the Champions League is a home game against Viktoria on October 23rd.

Kroos 50

With his selection in Moscow last night, Toni Kroos played his fiftieth European game for the club making him the German with most games in the white shirt on the European stage ahead of the likes of Khedira (34) and Mesut Ozil on 31 games.

Reguilon debuts

It was a bitter-sweet night for young defender Sergio Reguilon as he made his Real Madrid first team debut. Following the defeat in Russia, the 21-year-old was pragmatic claiming: "we're only in October and the season is long and arduous. It's not about how the campaign starts but how it finishes".

Alaves away

As the Moscow hangover wears off, thoughts turn back to domestic action and the next game in LaLiga which sees Lopetegui's side head north to Vitoria to face Deportivo Alaves. Previous trips to the Basque capital have augured well for Real Madrid with a 1-2 win in Mendizorroza last season and a convincing 1-4 away during the 2016/17 season.
