Löw speaks of option to coach Real Madrid after Germany

Germany coach Joachim Löw has given an interview to German television network ZDF, in which he spoke about life after his current role with the national setup and the possibility of managing Real Madrid in the future.

“I was a club coach for a few years and I’m still not thinking about retirement," said Löw, who has been coach of the national side since 2006.

“So there will come a time when you have to think about what to do next. For my part, I’m still interested in managing a club.”

Presenter of ZDF’s Sportstudio program, Jochen Breyer asked Löw if he thought about any club in particular, to which the German coach replied: "I think it would be abroad, not in Germany. Real Madrid is an interesting club for every coach."

Löw has a contract with Germany until 2020, but the embarrassing elimination at the group stages of the World Cup in Russia and the poor run of results in the Uefa Nations League have put his position in jeopardy.

It is not the first time that the 58-year-old coach has been linked with Madrid. After Zinedine Zidane’s departure, Löw was cited as a possible successor to the French coach, but ruled himself out of the running on the eve of the World Cup.

"I rule this out totally. Madrid will find a suitable replacement but yes, the Zidane resignation did take me by surprise,” Löw said at the time.
