Dortmund's Axel Witsel asks EA Sports to "fix his face" in FIFA 19
Borussia Dortmund star Axel Witsel appreciated his nomination in EA Sports' 'Team of the Week', but is not impressed by his FIFA 19 avatar's lack of likeness to him.
As the years have gone by, technology has allowed EA Sports developers to ensure that the players’ faces on FIFA are ever more like the real thing. Just take a look at how Cristiano Ronaldo’s image has evolved over the years.
But even with all the technology they have at their disposal these days, occasionally the FIFA developer team get it wrong and sometimes the players themselves take note. And the latest player not so impressed with his FIFA avatar is Belgium and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel.
While EA Sports often use more generic features for lesser known footballers in the game, Axel Witsel – one of the stars for Belgium at the World Cup in Russia – perhaps has a sufficiently high enough profile to warrant that the game developers give his avatar’s face some attention – or at least the player himself seems to think so.
As is customary, EA Sports released its ‘Team of the Week’ based on the performances of players in the previous week. And this week, Witsel has made the starting XI. While Witsel appreciated the recognition, he took the opportunity to ask EA Sports to fix his face in the latest edition of the legendary football game series, FIFA 19.
“Thanks but can we fix my in game face first?” wrote Witsel in response to EA Sport’s tweet about its 'Team of the Week', which also featured the likes of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Fabinho and Gabriel Jesus.
Of course, it wouldn’t be long before the Twitter world picked up on this, leading one user, IamPaulGibson, to super-impose Witsel’s FIFA avatar face on to a photo of his real-life body – the results of which are glaringly hilarious (check out the thread below).
Meanwhile, another Twitter user, SK doKtor, has advised Witsel to change his allegiance to Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, whose developers seem to have given his avatar a bit more attention than the crew at EA Sports, who are yet to respond to the Belgian player’s petition.
