At the ripe old age of 40, Gianluigi Buffon remains active in the game at the top level although he admits there have been moments when he's been forced to consider whether it was time to hang up his gloves for good. One such watershed moment came when he found himself up against the son of one of his old team mates in a match. Buffon and Enrico Chiesa were team mates at Parma at the tail end of the 90s. Back then, the keeper could not have imagined that one day he would be on the opposite side to Chiesa's teenage son Federico.

Strange feeling

"Playing against Federico Chiesa for the first time was a bit unsettling. It was the first time I'd played against the son of an old team mate. It was at that moment when I thought maybe it was time for me to call it a day and retire", Buffon admitted. But in the end, the former Italy captain decided to continue playing football - what he enjoys most in life. And we're glad that he's still around.
