Barcelona: Carlos Vela reportedly emerges as January target

Barcelona continue to comb the market in search of a player who can, at the very least, strengthen their attacking options until the end of the season. Having already sounded out several options (Cristhian Stuani, Luka Jovic...), Blaugrana bosses have reportedly also set their sights on a former LaLiga star currently plying his trade in Major League Soccer.

Vela fits Valverde requirements for Barcelona striker

According to the Ràdio Barcelona programme 'Què t,hi jugues!', Los Angeles FC's Carlos Vela - who enjoyed a successful six-and-a-half-season spell at Real Sociedad before moving to MLS - is now emerging as an unexpected frontrunner to join the Spanish league leaders this month.

The 29-year-old Mexican fits the requirements of Barça boss Ernesto Valverde, who wants to bring in a forward who is capable of playing anywhere across the front three and is a proven finisher. Last season, Vela scored 15 goals and supplied 12 assists in 31 appearances for Los Angeles.

Chelsea misfit Morata also an option for Barcelona

'Què t,hi jugues!' additionally reports that, as well as Vela, Barça are considering the option of swooping for Chelsea's Álvaro Morata, who is unsettled at the Premier League club. The ex-Real Madrid striker is also attracting the interest of fellow LaLiga side Atlético Madrid, but requires a series of eventualities to fall into place if he is to end up at the Wanda Metropolitano.
