90 YEARS OF LALIGA

Stadium Gal, the only surviving stadium from the first LaLiga

Of the 10 stadia in the first Spanish league campaign, only Real Unión's Stadium Gal in Irún remains in its original location. It was built in 1926.

El Stadium Gal

Of the 10 stadia in the very first season of Spain's national league, which was founded exactly 90 years ago today, Real Unión's Stadium Gal in Irún is the only which remains in its original location. It was built in 1926 for a total cost equivalent to 25,000 euros in today's money. The pitch has always been in the same position since the stadium was inaugurated, but the ground itself underwent a major refurbishment in 1997, when the original main stand was demolished and rebuilt from scratch with a new façade. Stadium Gal is located in Calle Patricio Arabolaza, Irún, some 200 metres from Santiago Bridge, which connects Spain to France, crossing the Bidasoa river to the French town of Hendaia.
