Real Madrid edge Barça in the social media El Clásico
The side from the Spanish capital come out on top in the leading social media platforms with the Catalan side winning the battle on YouTube followers.
Despite the El Clásico being the biggest game in the world in club football, the rivalry between both clubs gets played out on a number of stages.
A recent study carried out by Internet República shows that Real Madrid just shade things when it comes to social media reach of each club using an aggregate of each club's followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Barcelona dominate proceedings when it comes to YouTube with the Catalan club employing a solid strategy over the past years on developing their channel on the platform and are on the podium alongside Manchester giants City and United and a strategy on this platform is still something of a 'work in progress' for the side from the capital.
Google battle
Both sides are neck and neck scoring a Google rating of 80 on the world's most used search engine network but where Real Madrid shade it is securing more referred links from other websites.
Real Madrid also top the ranking in terms of national searches with a high density in the centre of the country (Madrid, Castilla y Leon and Castilla La Mancha) with FC Barcelona scoring higher on searches in Catalunya and the Balearic Islands.
Sergio Ramos vs Lionel Messi
On a head-to-head tussle between both club captains, the clear winner is the Argentine forward with Instagram being a case in point with Messi having 109 million followers compared to the 30 million following Ramos.
The situation is similar with Facebook with the Rosario born player having 88M followers against the 23 million that follow the Real Madrid defender. Sergio Ramos has a respectable 69 million followers with Messi not having a official account on the social media platform.
