Rodrigo: "I don't consider myself to be Spain's first choice striker"
The Valencia forward faced questions in the Mestalla press room ahead of tomorrow's game between Spain and Norway and spoke about Barcelona's interest in him.
Rodrigo Moreno was in the press room at Mestalla to take questions from the media ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2020 qualifier between Spain and Norway. The Valencia forward spoke about his role with the national team and the rumoured interest from Barcelona in signing him.
What do Spain have to do to capture the fans' attention?
New players have come into the team, a new group is being created and at the end of the day, as is always the case in football, the main thing is to win - that's what gets the fans going. If we can do that and play some pretty football too, like Spain have in the past few years, the even better.
What are your thoughts on the season so far?
It's clear that the season didn't get off to the best of starts - neither for me, for for the team. But with dedication, we've managed to turn it around. It's always important to get back scoring. I don't see myself as Spain's first choice centre-forward - despite the fact that I wear the No.9 shirt. I want to play a key role for the team and grow as a player - that's my plan and always will be.
Is this the sweetest part of the season for you?
I think I'm in a good moment and that Valencia are in the Cup final and being called up for the national is important and something which motivates me. That's what we work towards.
Barcelona interest.
We're entering a crucial part of the season where a lot is in play and I am not worried about what the papers say. I've got a lot of important things to go through with my team and the national team, that's what I'm focusing on.
You're the only one who's played all six games under Luis Enrique.
To have faith from any coach is fundamental and very important. I've been enjoying consistency under Luis Enrique. With Spain, the first few games were wonderful - against England and Croatia. The important thing is to keep working hard.
