Sevilla first team coach Joaquín Caparrós confirmed after his side's win away to Valladolid that he is suffering from "chronic leukemia" but plans to remain on the Sevilla bench until the end of the current season: "I've been diagnosed with chronic leukemia but it won't affect my profession as it's been caught in the early stage. I'm living a normal live and would like to offer my thanks to the players".

Club president José Castro and sporting director Monchi were with Caparrós as he made the announcement in the mixed zone at the Nuevo Zorrilla stadium. He later went into more elaborate detail about his situation during the post-match press conference. "I won't need any treatment and want to thank Sevilla for giving me the opportunity to coach the team again. After making the announcement, I'd like not to discuss the matter again and I want everyone to rest easy. Don't worry this is something I'll battle" he added.
