Holders USA handed kind draw at 2019 Gold Cup

On Wednesday the draw for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup took place during which holders USA learned their group opponents for this summer's tournament.

CONCACAF president Viktor Montagliani and former star of the United States national team Landon Donovan were present at the event held at the Banc of California Stadium.

This is how the groups were drawn.

GROUP A: Mexico, Canada, Martinique and Cuba

"Mexico has an obligation to reach the final game, we have to get ready for it," said Gerardo "Tata" Martino, head coach of the Mexican National Team.

GROUP B: Costa Rica, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Bermuda

Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas' Costa Rica are the clear favourites to emerge from this group in top spot. .

GROUP C: Honduras, Jamaica, El Salvador and Curaçao

"There are always things to improve in all countries, and when we talk about football, we are happy and excited to be part of this competition, I love the group we have because they are all strong and competitive teams," said Carlos de los Cobos, El Salvador's head coach.

GROUP D: the United States, Panama, Guyana, and Trinidad & Tobago

"We are going to start camp in May, and we will try to do our best in the tournament," said Gregg Berhalter, the US team's strategist.

The Stars and Stripes will be reunited with Trinidad & Tobago, the team that prevented them making the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
