Player fired by club on the spot after "irresponsible" panenka
Independiente CG forward Brendix Parra was sacked after a failed penalty in the Copa Sudamericana, which his side were in for the first time in their history.
Independiente CG forward Brendix Parra was left to rue his decision to attempt a panenka penalty during a Copa Sudamericana first-round shoot-out against La Equidad that ultimately handed the tie to his opponents.
The Venezuelan player was sacked immediately by his club with Independiente president Eriberto Gamarra stating: "The board has taken the decision to remove Brendix Parra from the team for the way he took the penalty, which was completely irresponsible."
Independiente, who play in the Paraguayan second division, were participating in a continental competition for the first time in their history.
