Fortuna Dusseldorf fans to show photo ID to use away toilets

After some very inappropriate behaviour from some of the Fortuna ultras, opposition clubs are taking matters into their own hands.

Fans of German football club Fortuna Dusseldorf, currently sitting midtable of the Bundesliga, have proven themselves not to be the best guests when visiting other stadiums. A portion of their hardcore fanbase have taken to destroying the toilets of away grounds and, therefore, will be forced to show identification upon 'spending a penny' at their next game against Freiburg.

ID'd for taking the piss

Clubs including Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Mainz and Wolfsburg have all been victims of the Dusseldorf supporters, whose actions have ended up costing their club close to 150,000 euros in fines by the German Federation. Now opposing clubs are taking the matter into their own hands and anyone needing to relieve themselves at the Schwarzwald-Stadion on Sunday afternoon will be required to hand over photo ID before entering. Dusseldorf explained Freiburg's stance in a statement to their travelling supporters:

"Due to various acts of intentional damage to the facilities at away games this season, Fortuna fans are asked to accept that there are problems with this situation. Therefore everyone who visits the toilet must show photo ID to the stewards that will be stationed at the toilet entrances."

There may fewer beverage sales than usual, and potentially a more literal sense of squeeky bum time come the final few minutes of the match.
