LA Galaxy's second loss in a row thanks to Columbus Crew
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and company travelled to Ohio looking to forget the loss of New York, but The Crew gave them a reality check.
Columbus Crew arrived at Wednesday night's meeting with a five-game losing streak, the worst in the club's history, while LA Galaxy came from a 3-2 defeat over the weekend during their visit to New York Red Bulls.
It all seemed to be in favor of the visiting side since they were second in the Western Conference and considered one of the contenders to lift the MLS Cup title. But games must be played, and the story of this game was not what everyone expected, except perhaps, the Black & Gold fans.
The game started with a back and forth rhythm as both teams went looking to create chances, and despite the offensive power LA Galaxy has with a player like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it was Gyasi Zardes who scored the opening goal for a 1-0 lead that lasted until the end of the first 45 minutes.
For the second half, things seemed to be going for the LA team, with Zlatan almost scoring the equalizer, but Steffen dove to his right to deny Ibra's goal. A missed chance that allowed the Crew to take hold as things started to go more their way.
Federico Higuain would score the second goal of the night, leaving Galaxy struggling to get back on track. Hector Jimenez would destroy all hope for Galaxy when he scored to give a 3-0 lead for the Crew.
With just two minutes left in the game, and from a late corner, Steres appeared to, at least, save Los Angeles some pride when he arrived unmarked to the back post and tucked away Galaxy's one and only goal.
With this result, LA Galaxy adds its second loss in a row and leaves us wondering if their power is only present when they play at home, or at least this season.
