Gregg Berhalter makes the first cut for friendly against Jamaica
The US national team head coach presented the 28-man roster ahead of the pre-Gold Cup games; the final list is due on June 5th midnight.
The US men's national team head coach, Gregg Berhalter named a 28-man roster ahead of the warm-up game against Jamaica on Wednesday, June 5th. Last week the Bars and Stripes team gathered in Annapolis for training camp, in order to polish details in time for the CONCACAF championship.
"After a great week of training, we now enter the phase of playing competitive matches, the game against Jamaica will represent an opportunity for us to evaluate new prospects as well as continue to develop the group for the Gold Cup. We are excited about the group coming in and the opportunity ahead of us this summer," said coach Berhalter through a statement.
The new cut counts with seventeen MLS players highlighting both Toronto FC stars, Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore, Columbus Crew is the team that has most representatives on the roster, Zack Steffen, Gyasi Zardes, and Will Trapp. Los Angeles FC, San José Earthquakes, and Seattle Sounders feature two players in the squad.
Missing names
Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams don't appear in the list for the game against Jamaica, but it is expected that both players will be named in the Gold Cup final roster.
Pulisic and Adams will join USMNT camp in the following days, which means seven players named in the 28-man roster won't go to the Gold Cup. Tyler Miller, Duane Holmes, Yueill and Tyler Boyd could earn their first caps for the US in Wednesday's game vs. Jamaica.
Coach Berhalter final 23-man roster for the summer tournament is due by midnight following the game against Jamaica and will be announced on June 6th.
