Real Madrid beat Arsenal in wild game at FedEx Field

Real Madrid vs Arsenal: as it happened!

Maybe it's better for everyone that it's over! A bizarre game that started with a Nacho red after 10 minutes as Arsenal took a 2-0 lead but saw Kolasinac sent off in the first half too.

Gareth Bale came on and scored before Asensio equalised and was then stretchered off with what looked like a serious knee injury.

Then we went to penalties as Real Madrid took the win despite a miss from Bale.

Burton drives it over the bar. Real Madrid win!

Vinicus gets very lucky with his penalty. But it goes in.

Monreal hits the post.

Varane buries his now!

Saka with a lovely penalty. 2-1.

Isco buries his spot kick. 1-1.

Xhaka misses too.

Bale taking. He misses!

And he slots it home.

Nelson to take the first. He does take it and scores but the ref said to wait. He has to go again.

GAME OVER but we have to settle this somehow.

Penalties it is!

He's straight back up though after initially grabbing his ankle.

Now Marcelo is down injured after getting caught late by Jenkinson.

It's Arsenal who are bushing now. Nelson on the ball and it's headed just wide by Saka. That comes just after Courtois comes out to save a one-on-one from the same man.

Bale with the ball across the box to Isco. He is lining up the shot but can't get it away asthe Arsenal defender arrives to clear.

Real Madrid will fancy themselves to get the winner here. The game has opened right up and they have fresher legs along with a very lively looking Vinicius too.

Gareth Bale with one of those outside the left boot efforts after some good work by Vinicius. It goes just wide.

Corner comes in and Bale clears it off the line.

Ball sent in from the left. Kolasinac tries to chest it back to Martinez but he sends it out for a corner.

Lovely ball into Aubameyang's path and Courtois is out like a light to reject his advances.

Asensio stetchered off now after he challenges Aubameyang. it didn't look bad. Very strange one.

But he was very upset.

Asensio down now in pain. He is writhing in pain.

Asensio with the left-footed strike that beats Martinez.

GOAL! Asensio makes it 2-2.

Such a strange, strange game.

BALE GOAL! Ball across from Marcelo and Asenio manages to kick it free from the keeper and Bale knocks it home.

Lovely effort from Asensio. He piledrives it off the post. Varane gets the rebound and he sends it over the bar.

Xhaka down getting treatment on his ankle.

Marcelo crosses and Kolasinac chests it down to the keeper.

We are back underway.

We have Real Madrid XI for the second half: Courtois; Odriozola, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo; Kroos, Modric, Isco, Asensio; Bale, Benzema.

Bale will play in the second half.

Madrid's best chance. Benzema with the header that hits the post. Lovely, guided header. Unlucky from the striker.

Much better from Madrid now as the ball is sent over to Carvajal. He plays it into the middle and Benzema is waiting but Martinez has other plans as he grabs the ball.

Real Madrid more comfortable now with 10 on 10.

Sokratis sent off now as he clatters into Modric. It's his second yellow and that's it evened up.

Ñuka Modric taken out of it now as Sokratis gets a talking to.

Ball comes in and Lacazette launches the shot over the bar. Arsenal pushing for a third but Real Madrid holding firm.

Free for Real Madrid. Kroos sends it towards goal and it's headed away. Madrid trying to put more pressure on now as it's sent back in and Ramos is offside. Nothing going right for them at the moment.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid trying to calm things down on the field and get the ball at their feet.

Bale has left the bench to go to the dressing room.

Arsenal attack again and the cross comes in. Saved low by Navas.

Xhaka clatters into Modric.

Carvajal booked now for fouling Ozil on the counter.

Hazard hauled down as he looks for some space in around Arsenal's defence.

2-0! Aubameyang scores after rounding Navas. Ramos nearly makes it back to prevent it.

Mendy shows off his speed and gets a run on the defender. He sends it across goal and forces a save from Martinez.

Benzema wins the ball back and drives forward but his touch lets him down. As Arsenal attack, Ramos wins it back and drives forward. Real Madrid with a chance now. Carvajal hits it to Benzema and he clips it back but Carvajal is on the ground. He ran in to Xhaka and wants a penalty. Referee says absolutely no chance. Carvajal thinks it was.

Arsenal dominating the ball now.

Lucas crosses as Real Madrid improve here but Martinez grabs the cross.

Jovic off for Varane.

Arsenal attack again.

Just to confirm that Nacho was sent off for the handball on the line.

GOAL! Lacazette scores as it hits both posts and crosses the line.

Nacho with the hand ball on the line! PENALTY FOR ARSENAL!

Now Lucas gives the ball away, wins it back and then loses it again. Willock wins it and the shot comes in as Navas gets down to save. Strange start from Real Madrid. They seem distratced. I'm sure they're doing plenty of fitness work but this is very poor.

Excellent strike by Ozil and Navas is equal to it. Falls to Aubameyang and it's blocked. Great response from Arsenal.

Nacho is so, so slow to that. Kolasinac is in around him and he kicks the full-back on the arm or in the chest. Free just outside the box and no card for Nacho. Not sure how he avoided that!

Arsenal respond with their own pressure. No shots yet but they're matching Madrid's intensity now.

Ramos gives it to Aubameyang and he takes off but his touch is very much a preseason touch and it's put out for a throw by Ramos.

A mistake by Sokratis and Real Madrid are in. Jovic pulls the trigger and it's blocked! Arsenal struggling.

Ramos wins the ball back, plays to Benzema and he finds Lucas. The ball eventually makes its way back to Benzema and he strikes! He forces a good save from Martinez too. Good start by Real Madrid.

Real Madrid attack straight away. Jovic crosses and Lucas can't get his head to the cross as Arsenal recover.

We are underway!

That was weird. Two teams ready to come onto the field. They were held back to let the refs out. Then Real Madrid held back to let Arsenal out as red smoke was blasted and then Real Madrid were eventually allowed to leave the tunnel as white smoke sprayed in their faces. All a bit much for a preseason friendly.

Teams in the tunnel and ready to emerge onto the field. Ramos leading Real Madrd out and Ozil walks out against his former team as the captain.

Bale isn't amongst the players warming up for the game. Forjanes says it seems diffficult that he plays today.

The Americans aren't all that keen on keeping time. The last game didn't start for about five minutes after the scheduled time and it seems this one won't either.

The national anthem being played at FedEx Field.

Aubameyang and Lacazette might be too much to handle for Ramos and Nacho tonight. They could have done with Varane back there to improve their overall pace.

It has been a bizarre few days for Gareth Bale as Zinedine Zidane looked like he was pushing him out of the club. Bale's agent, however, says he won't be accepting any makeshift deals to speed up an exit. He isn't starting tonight and it's unlikely that he plays but he is on the bench at least.

A quick chat with Hazard before the game.

Real Madrid will be wearing this blue number tonight.

Arsenal XI: Martinez, Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Sokratis, Kolasinac, Willock, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette.

Jovic is a "goal machine" according to Milosevic. This backs up what Jovic says about himself. He thinks he was put on this earth to score goals!

First starts for Mendy and Jovic under Zidane. Will be very interesting to see how they line up but it looks like a 4-4-2. Mendy and Hazard on the left side of the field is a brand new combination and Zidane probably want to get a look at them.

Our man in Maryland confirms that Bale is on the bench.

Arsenal are ready. The NFL stadium has translated well into a soccer field.

Real Madrid XI: Keylor Navas, Carvajal, Ramos, Nacho, Mendy, Lucas Vázquez, Modric, Kroos, Hazard, Jovic, Benzema.

Rodrygo was fouled almost every time he touched the ball against Bayern! He scored an absolute wonder goal from a free in which he was fouled for. His shooting prowess is no surprise to Real Madrid fans though.

Lots of questions for Real Madrid still to answer. Like where do Rodrygo, Vinicius and Kubo fit into the team or will they play at Castilla, or on loan?

Kubo has gotten plenty of buzz and he did well against Bayern. Oh, and he scored this at training! The sky seems to be the limit for the Japanese youngster after Real Madrid snuck in and signed him despite interest from around Europe.

Ceballos is set to join Arsenal. He didn't travel to the United States after the European under-21 championship with Spain. He did travel to London today though and is set to join the Gunners on loan.

Zidane said last night during his presser that "I didn't disrespect anybody." It is quite clear, however, that he did. He said that Bale didn't play against Bayern but that he trained yesterday and we will see about today. His future at the club seems short but let's see if he gets a few minutes tonight.

We are going to see if Bale plays tonight after the saga of the last couple of days! We promise Bale speculation won't be hogging the live feed tonight but it is pretty significant news so we will be dicsussing it.
