Liverpool stroll to victory over newly promoted Norwich

Liverpool stroll to victory over newly promoted Norwich

Goals from Van Dijk, Salah and Origi followed an early Norwich o.g and the injury to Brazilian keeper Alisson Becker was the only blotch for Jurgen Klopp as his side now focus on Wednesday's Uefa Super Cup.

Liverpool go the job done in the first 45' of the 2019-20 Premier League opener cruising to a 4-0 Anfield lead over newsly promoted Norwich City.

That's it... Michael Oliver calls time on the action with three points on the board for Liverpool.

90

2' of time to be added

90

Difficult night for Norwich with a trip to the home of the current European champions always a tricky proposition. Defensive lapses and early wasted chances from  Stiepermann the key to the first half.

89

Into the final minute of normal time we go .....

87

Liverpool with thoughts very much on Istanbul and the Super Cup for the bulk of the second half with the 4-0 half time cushion enough for the Reds to ease off.

Firmino off with Milner his replacement.

84

Dangerous free kick for Liverpool as Firmino upended on the "D". Salah poised... In the end it's Trent AA who takes and forces Krul to tip wide.

Change for Norwich: Pukki off and Drmic on. Good display from the Finnish international.

80

Free-kick for Norwich and Buendia elects to strike on goal but drills the ball straight at Adrian.

Liverpool sleeping just a tad there.

79

Where was the Liverpool rear guard as Onel Hernandez is free but fires his shot straight at Adrian.

78

The only negative for Liverpool tonight is the injury sustained by Alisson in the first half.

The Senegalese striker was in action less than a month ago representing his country at the AFCON 21019 final.

76

Mane looking very sharp since coming on.

LFC change: Mane on for Origi

72

Norwich under pressure again as Liverpool press. Decent past 10' spell from the Anglian side which culminated with the goal.

Hernandez replaces Trybull

Premier League history in the making as Hernandez becomes the first Cuban to play in the Premier League

Buendia carded. Second Norwich name in the book

Fine finish from the Finnish player beating the offside trap and finsihing from an acute angle

Teemu Pukki slots home

Norwich go close as Leitner rifles the ball off the woodwork. Credit to the Canaries who are still looking to play the ball around and score !

Leitner receives the first yellow card of the game after a late tackle on Henderson.

59

Liverpool now taking their foot off the gas, possibly aware of the packed fixture list that awaits Klopp's men.

(Norwich) Stiepermann off with Leitner his replacement.

58

Robertson tries his luck with a rasping 25 yard drive that goes wide.

53

Fabinho forces Krul into action with the Norwich keeper alert.

54

Salah goes close with a left foot effort which just failed to bend into the far post. The Egyptian showing flashes of skill absent for Egypt in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

53

Trent Alexander-Arnold fires into the side netting but the ball takes a deflection and Liverpool win a corner. It's going to be a long, long 35' or so for The Canaries.

Fine pre-match mosaic from the Kop celebratuing Liverpool's sixth Euro triumph

Liverpool almost make it 5. Krul pushes the ball onto the bar from a Henderson effort and then Firmino almost swivels the ball home.

Reminder of the teams...

Liverpool start the second half...

All seems to be resolved and we can get the action underway.

Referee Michael Oliver looking anxious as fans begin to whistle

The start of the game is suffering a brief delay with the assistants electronic armbands being changed ....

Daniel Farke, Manager of Norwich City deep in thought ....

The whistle sounds at Anfield and Liverpool are in cruise control ... 4-0 ahead at the interval.

Aarons looks to have picked up a knock and  leaves the pitch with the Norwich physio.

We'll have 3' of time added to cover the Alisson injury

45

A little left footed dink from Salah is over hit as Norwich boss Daniel Farke looks miserable on the touch line

43

Salah probes again and Norwich defend desperately. It's a question of damage limitation for the Canaries now who will be anxious to get in for the break and regroup as best they can.

Way, way, way too easy for Liverpool as Origi latches on to a perfect A-Arnold cross field delivery.

Origi makes it 4

Big blow for Liverpool who are off to Istanbul mid-week to face chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

Adrian on-Alisson off

Not looking good for Alisson.... The Brazilian is being helped from the pitch and Klopp is forced to bring on Adrian.

The Brazilian stopper appeared to slip after the last clearance and Spanish reserve keeper Adrian looks poised to make his Liverpool debut.

Becker is on the surface and looks to be in trouble. Seems to have developed some muscular problem.

Pukki looks bright up front for the men in yellow, winning a corner for Norwich, forcing Van Dijk to clear his line

34

Henderson now forces Krul to palm away ... Liverpool rampant at the moment.

Clinical from Liverpool tonight converting three chances with Norwich wasteful in front of goal.

31

Great half volley from Firmino and this time Krul does well in palming the effort away from danger.

Poor defending from Norwich...far too easy for the Dutch defender and question marks over Krul's keeping too.

Liverpool make it 3 with Van Dijk nodding home from a Salah corner

It's been a frantic 26-27 minutes of action with Origi possibly the standout player to on the night.

This 2-0 scoreline is a tad harsh as Norwich are still playing with verve and endeavour.

Buendia strikes but fails to get pace in his shot and it's easy for Alisson.

24

Still no intervention from VAR at Anfield.

Pukki breaks into the box and once again is thwarted. Flag was up though !

21

Norwich now pressed into their own half with Liverpool pushing the ball around with poise and purpose.

Fine work from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the build-up to the goal and the Egyptian was clinical after the ball broke into his path.

Salah makes it 2

17

Despite the unfortunate start, Norwich are refusing to roll over and better finishing from Stiepermann and Pukki could have changed the complexion of the game.

Norwich aheasd on possession !

Pukki breaks into the Liverpool box and just fails to latch onto the ball. The ball falls to the Finnish player again and this time he flashes the ball across the mouth of the Liverpool goal.

14

Origi again providing the danger for Liverpool as he looks for Salah and forces Krul into action in the Norwich goal

12

Liverpool press again with Salah just failing to latch on to a Wijnaldum cross ball.

10

Excellent from Norwich as they cut through the Liverpool defence and the ball again falls to Stiepermann who once again is wasteful blazing over.

Worst possible start for the Canaries

Gooooool .... the ball is turned into the Norwich net by Hanley after an Origi cross....

Classic frenetic pace to the start of the game as both German coaches patrol their technical area.

5

Poor delivery from Alisson as the ball works its way to Stiepermann  but the german skies the ball over the bar.

3

First corner of the night goes to Liverpool with the home side enjoying the brighter start.

Brand new Premier League ball making its debut tonight too !

1

Off we go at Anfield ...Norwich start the action...

Norwich huddle as "You´ll Never Walk Alone" belts out from the home fans

John W. Henry, owner of Liverpool at the game tonight ahead of the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Norwich City at Anfield

The teams take to the pitch at a packed Anfield.

Looking forward to seeing Emi Buendia in action for "The Canaries" tonight. Had an eye on the Argentine when at Cultural Leonesa and looked like a player with true promise.

The trademark Klopp smile is still there!

This will be the meeting between Liverpool and Norwich since a nine-goal thriller at Carrow Road in January 2016, which the Reds prevailed 5-4. Sébastien Bassong had scored an equaliser to make it 4-4 in the 92nd minute, before Adam Lallana netted the winner in the 95th minute.

Norwich's motto ahead of the game tonight... Ignore the noise and be brave !

Norwich highly fancied by many to make a direct return to the Championship with Liverpool second favourites to claim the Premier League crown (behind Manchester City).

No shortage of LFC badges on sell in the merchandise stalls outside Anfield tonight.

..and here it is in place at Anfield.

A little bit of history being made tonight at Anfield too with this being the first Premier League game to feature the VAR system.

Liverpool field the same side that faced Manchester City last weekend in the Community Shield at Wembley.

The Liverpool XI

The action from Anfield gets underway at 21:00 CEST.

It's back.... The 2019-20 Premier League season returns with Champions League winners Liverpool facing newly promoted Norwich City.
