It is the most repeated battle in professional Spanish football ahead of the Barcelona derby (261 times).

Real Madrid have won 139 of those games wih 65 draws and 69 losses. In total, there have been 816 goals, 468 for Real Madrid and 348 for Atlético. The top scorers in this historic battle are: Cristiano Ronaldo (22), Di Stéfano (17), Santillana (15), Puskas (13), Butragueño (12), Bernabéu (12), Campos (12), Escudero (11) and Raúl (11).

Atlético Madrid at home

There have been 133 games on Atlético turf with 42 wins for the home side, 34 draws and 57 wins for Real Madrid. It will be the third derby at the Wanda Metropolitano after the 0-0 in 2017, the 1-3 from last season. Only four teams have won at the stadium including Real Madrid: Chelsea (1-2 in 2017), Sevilla (1-2 in 2018) and Espanyol (0-2 in 2018).

Last 15 Madrid derbies

Real Madrid have avoided defeat just twice in the last 15 meetings between the sides (11 in LaLiga, two in Copa del Rey, two in the Spanish Super Cup). Ronaldo landed a hat-trick i 2016-17 in the league and Solari's Real Madrid beat them 1-3 in the league last season. In the other 13 games, they could only manage five defeats and eight draws.

Real Madrid have only lost once in 18 visits to Atlético Madrid's stadium. That game finished 4-0 in February 2015. In the other 17 games, they won 12 and drew five times.

The Real Madrid wall

Real Madrid have gone two games without their opponents having a shot on target. It's the first time such a thing has happened in the last decade. In the first game, against Sevilla, Courtois was the man in goals and in the second, against Osasuna, Areola made his debut. The Belgian broke a 15 game run of conceding a goal and now they look to make it three in a row without conceding for the first time since December 2018.

Real Sociedad's win over Alavés during the week means Real Madrid sit top with Atlético Madrid sitting in third. That win for La Real prevented us from seeing the Madrid teams sit first and second ahead of a derby for the first time since 16th May 1992.

Atlético have onle won one game in their last nine against LaLiga's leaders and that came when they beat Madrid in February 2015. On 34 occasions, Madrid have travelled to play Atlético as the league leader and won 14 of those games, drew 12 times and lost eight times.

Simeone's records against Real Madrid

With Diego Simeone on the bench, Atlético have played Real Madrid 29 times with nine victories and 10 draws along with 10 losses. That is in contrast with the 29 derbies that came before Simeone's arrival. In those games, Atlético won just two, drew eight and lost 19 times.

Cholo will equal Luis Aragonés as the manage who has played Real Madrid most (30). Also, if they win, he will move ahead of the legendary rojiblanco manager with the most victories over their eternal rival.
