Gerardo 'Tata' Martino marked an era in the MLS by taking Atlanta United to their first championship in their second year as part of the US league. The experienced manager put together a squad with a base in youngsters like Josef Martínez and Miguel Almirón, who become a dangerous pairing for any MLS defense.

The Mexican National team coach, in an interview with TUDN, talked about his time in the MLS recalling how he managed to create a young team that became champions, highlighting the commitment of his players.

"In Atlanta, I felt like a boy playing video games. We built a team out of nowhere, and fortunately, everything worked out," Martino explained.

A stage to Europe

The former Five Stripes coach emphasized how the MLS has become a perfect platform from which to make the move to Europe, highlighting the case of Almirón, who put in the work to reach the old continent, adding that the US soccer league is about to be as important as the NBA is in the States.

"The MLS is already seen as a step to jump to Europe; at some point, it will have the same significance as the NBA does."
