Five players Tottenham want to sell
Mauricio Pochettino has five players on his hitlist as he looks to revamp his struggling Spurs squad, according to The Times.
Tottenham haven’t made much movement on the transfer market over the past two years.
Mauricio Pochettino has managed to keep his squad intact, convincing chairman Daniel Levy to use his budget to retain the club’s stars and make only a few light touches in terms of signings.
But the team is in need of change and in the Champions League match against Bayern Munich it was clear that the club needs to bring in some new faces, but to this must first unload some old ones.
And that is why Pochettino has made a list of five players he wants to sell, according to The Times.
Pochettino’s hit list: Eriksen, Dier, Aurier
Christian Eriksen is one of the club’s stars, but the club must sell him in winter if they want to avoid losing him on a free in the summer when his contract expires. The Danish midfielder has already been linked with Real Madrid and Juventus, as well as with Barcelona and Manchester United and could very well be packing his bags after Christmas.
Eriksen is joined on the list by four other players: the first of which is Eric Dier. The England international has only played two full games and those two have ended in tragedy: in one Spurs were eliminated from the Carabao Cup and the other was the 3-0 trouncing by Brighton last weekend.
Serge Aurier has also had few opportunities but the truth is that he is playing well. The problem is that he hasn’t been able to finish filling the void left by Atlético Madrid's Kieran Trippier and so far finds himself rotating in that position with Kyle Walker-Peters.
Another player who could be on his way to the exit door is Victor Wanyama. Sissoko, Winks, Alli, Eriksen, Lo Celso and Ndombélé have left him consigned to the role of an unused substitute. He has played just 24 minutes of Premier League football this season, so it may be best for all concerned to see him move on.
Last on the list is Danny Rose. The left back is already 29 years old and although he is a starter, his departure would leave room for Ben Davies, who is just as good and younger.
Alderweild and Alli
What is striking is that two names are not on the list: Toby Alderweireld, who is always on the exit ramp, and Dele Alli. Previously one of the stars of the team, Alli has played just 30 minutes in the Premier League this season and could be another player that the club will be willing to offload.
